Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: From Protection to Cyber Resilience

Cyber threats are evolving rapidly, driven by geopolitical tensions and the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In an interview with Economy Today, Altani Batoudaki, Managing Director of ADACOM Cyprus, highlights how organizations today face increasingly complex and large-scale cyber risks.
Recent attacks, including those by groups such as Noname057(16), demonstrate the speed and scale at which cyber incidents can occur, often targeting the availability of critical systems. Beyond financial impact, these attacks can also affect data, operations, and public perception through misinformation.

AI Is Changing the Threat Landscape
AI is primarily accelerating existing threats, making attacks faster, more scalable, and harder to detect. From automated campaigns to advanced social engineering and zero-day exploitation, organizations now have significantly less time to respond.
At the same time, AI plays a key role in defense - enhancing threat detection, analyzing large volumes of data, and enabling more effective incident response.

Cybersecurity Is Not Just an IT Issue
A common misconception is that cybersecurity is purely a technical matter.
“Cybersecurity is not just about tools; it is a combination of policies, processes, people, and technology.”
Cyber risk is a business risk that impacts operations, reputation, and compliance. While IT teams are responsible for implementation, accountability lies with executive management and leadership.

From Protection to Cyber Resilience
Organizations must move beyond a tools-based approach and adopt a continuous risk management mindset. Cybersecurity is not a one-time investment, but an ongoing process that requires monitoring, adaptation, and preparedness.
Importantly, no organization is “too small” to be targeted. Most attacks are automated and exploit existing vulnerabilities, often using smaller organizations as entry points into larger ecosystems.
Building cyber resilience—through strategy, awareness, and readiness—is essential for ensuring business continuity in today’s evolving threat landscape.
