ADACOM and Scytáles enter partnership for the Digital Vaccination Certificate for use on mobile devices

ADACOM S.A.  a Provider of Trust Services (QTSP) and Cybersecurity Solutions and Scytáles AB announce the expansion of their cooperation in the field of Green Digital Vaccination certificate in Greece, Cyprus, and the Balkans.  Scytáles recently announced the “Green Pass – Mobile Vaccination Passport and Certification Service”, which is based on an International Reading Standard (ISO) ready and available to serve governments and millions of citizens.

The ISO/IEC 18013-5 standard allows data models relating to credentials, attributes, and identity authorizations; produced by any prospective domain, appear on smart phones as a Mobile Document (mdoc). An mdoc can exist on a smart mobile device and/or on a server owned by the Issuing Authority and allows an mdoc owner to share one or more data elements with an mdoc reader. ISO/IEC 18013-5 standard uses Public Key Cryptography and Public Key Infrastructure to ensure the integrity of an mdoc’s data and its secure verification.

Scytáles is the leader in the new standard ISO 18013-5 mobileID technology, and Derived Mobile ID for complementary digital identification solutions using smart devices (EIDAS, NFC card signing) and validation mechanisms in realtime, on-line/off-line mode by “smart devices” and for travel documents and CSP (Credentials Service Manager) solutions.

ADACOM, as a Trust Services Provider, has developed a Mobile eID solution based on Public Key Infrastructure technology and approved electronic signatures and is working with Scytales to include in the Mobile eID solution digitized identification documents such as ID, driver’s license, insurance card, etc.

“There is no doubt that a vaccination passport based on an international standard, digitally and securely stored on our mobile phones, will allow us to continue to travel within the EU. The ISO standard and compliance with GDPR rules ensure that information can be read and validated across borders.  No other form, printed or any other, can do this without the risk of falsification and possible security breach (leakage of sensitive information),” Ioannis John Glykos, Country Manager Greece & Regional Manager Europe, Scytáles AB.

“At ADACOM we are excited about the prospect, following the conclusion of this partnership with Scytáles, in order to ensure the development of a certified, interoperable and modern technology that will make it easier for citizens to travel and move safely”, Panos Vasiliadis, Managing Director, ADACOM SA.

There are three axes around which this solution will work and those are:

Privacy & Anonymization:
  • respect for GDPR rules and the application of even greater restrictions if necessary, to ensure full protection of personal data and information,
  • the safe disposal of only the necessary information given by citizens in the relevant institutional or private control mechanism and the retention of this information for the minimum possible time to be checked if vaccinated, negatively test, immunized & protected by recovery of Covid-19 in the past.
Interoperability:
  • the absolute need to be available to use it for all Member States and from all over the world, is something that can only be ensured by the standardisation of the World ISO Organization and in our case the application of ISO-18013-5.
  • all parties, E.U.-W.H.O.-U.S.A. are already in consultation, since it makes perfect sense that in order to allow fast and free movement of American citizens and others, to the EU and vice versa, there must be certified identification of vaccination, tests, antibodies.
Offline Mode:

The ability to validate effectively, while perfectly protecting personal data, in an environment where there is no internet connection or any other type of connection. In other words, one device (reader) can confirm at the local level the information given by the other device (user) of its own free will.
